Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Solomon Caldwell LLC ("Slate," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with the Slate website (slatetutor.com) and services (the "Service").

1. Who Uses Slate

Slate is used by two types of account holders:

• Tutors, who use Slate to run the business side of their tutoring, including billing, scheduling, and client coordination.
• Parents/Guardians, who are invited by a Tutor to view, coordinate, and pay for tutoring on Slate.

Students do not create Slate accounts and do not directly provide information to Slate. Any information about a student is provided to us by a Parent or Tutor, not collected from the student. Slate is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.

2. Information We Collect

From Tutors:

• Name, email, phone number, business/contact information, and payment details needed to process your subscription (handled via Stripe).
• Content you create in the Service: students and clients, rates and services, sessions and travel time, invoices, packages, cancellations, availability and bookings, session notes, resources, and your public tutor page (photo, bio, subjects, services, prices).
• Expense records, receipts (including uploaded images or files), and mileage entries you add for your own record-keeping.
• If you send us in-app feedback, the message you write, plus a short technical diagnostic attached automatically: the page you were on, a log of the button/menu labels and pages you navigated in that session, device/browser type, screen size, light/dark mode, timestamp, and any recent app errors. We show you exactly what's attached before you send it. This diagnostic never includes what you typed into a form or session note, or your students'/their parents' names or contact details.

From Parents/Guardians:

• Name, email, phone number, and payment information (handled via Stripe) used to view and pay for tutoring, including any resource a Tutor has marked as paid.
• Information you choose to provide about your student to help the Tutor deliver services, such as learning preferences, scheduling notes, or goals. This is optional and provided at your discretion.

Automatically collected:

• Basic usage and device information (such as browser type, IP address, and pages visited) collected through product analytics to help us operate and improve the Service.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including billing, scheduling, booking, the parent portal, and record-keeping features;
• Process payments and facilitate payments between Parents and Tutors via Stripe;
• Send service-related communications, and, where you have opted in, session or payment reminders by email or SMS;
• Maintain security and prevent fraud;
• Understand and improve how the Service is used;
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not use student information (provided by Parents or Tutors) for advertising, and we do not sell it.

4. Payment Processing (Stripe)

All payment card information is collected and processed directly by Stripe, our third-party payment processor. Slate does not store full credit card numbers on our servers. Your use of payment features is also subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.

5. Service Providers We Use

We share information with service providers who help us operate the platform, under confidentiality obligations and only as needed to provide the Service. These currently include:

• Stripe — payment processing.
• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (for example, uploaded receipts and profile photos).
• Vercel — website and application hosting.
• PostHog — product analytics.
• Resend — email delivery (where enabled).
• Twilio — SMS delivery (where enabled).

This list may change as our providers change; the current Service Providers are reflected in this Policy as updated from time to time.

6. How We Share Information

We share information only as follows:

• With the service providers listed above, to operate the Service.
• Between Tutors and Parents, as necessary for the tutoring relationship (for example, a Tutor and the linked Parent can see the sessions, shared notes, schedule, resources, and invoices for that student).
• Publicly, only the information a Tutor chooses to publish on their public tutor page (such as name, photo, bio, services, and prices). Do not put sensitive information on a public page.
• For legal reasons, if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Slate, our Users, or others.
• In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

7. Communications and SMS

We send account, billing, booking, and security messages as part of the Service. If you provide a phone number and opt in, we (or a Tutor through Slate) may send transactional reminders by SMS. Message and data rates may apply, and you can opt out at any time by replying STOP or get help by replying HELP. Email and SMS are delivered through the providers listed in Section 5.

8. Data Retention

We retain account, billing, and record-keeping information for as long as your account is active and as needed to comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations. You may request deletion of your account data as described in Section 10, subject to records we are legally required to retain.

9. Data Security and Location

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including access controls that limit each account to its own data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. The Service is operated in the United States, and information is processed and stored there.

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to opt out of certain uses. This includes rights available to California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), such as the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion.

If you are a Parent or Tutor and want to remove information about a student, you may edit or delete it directly in your account, or contact us for assistance.

11. Children's Privacy

Slate accounts are limited to adults (Tutors and Parents/Guardians). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children, and students do not have accounts. Any information about a student is submitted by an adult (a Parent or Tutor) at their discretion, not by the child. A Parent can view and delete the information tied to their child. If you believe a child has created an account or provided us information directly, contact us so we can address it.

12. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies or similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

13. Third-Party Links

The Service may reference or link to third-party services (such as Stripe). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy practices separately.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new Effective Date, and, for material changes, notify you via email or through the Service.
